It may surprise you to know that for nearly two decades, I worked in agricultural banking. This is a career that, while stable and interesting in its own way, left me feeling detached from what really mattered to me. I’d always imagined myself in a more active, people‑centred role, maybe even something to do with physical training or the outdoors. But life, as it often does, took me down a different path.
By the time I was expecting my second son, I realised I needed a change. I wanted work that would fit around family life. In particular, I longed for something meaningful, flexible, and rooted in helping others.
Discovering Bowen Therapy
It was actually my parents who first introduced me to Bowen Therapy. My dad had experienced it for an ongoing issue and couldn’t stop talking about how effective it was. They encouraged me to give it a try and although I’d never even had a Bowen treatment myself at that point, I decided to take the plunge and sign up for training.
From the very first day of that course, I knew I’d found what I was looking for. Bowen Therapy was gentle yet powerful, fascinating in its precision and depth, and I was completely hooked. Over the next nine months of training, I learned techniques that not only changed my professional life but also transformed how I understood the body’s innate ability to heal itself.
That was more than 20 years ago, and I’m still learning every day. Every person I work with is different, and the more I work with people, the more I’ve realised how intricate and intelligent the human body truly is.
Building a Career Around Family and Purpose
What’s more, becoming self‑employed gave me the flexibility I’d been craving. I could schedule appointments around my children, take time for family life, and still build a thriving Bowen practice from my home in Hampshire.
Over time, that little practice grew through word of mouth. My clients came from all walks of life — athletes, office workers, new mums, retirees — and each one brought their own story, their own healing journey. The most rewarding part was seeing how a few gentle movements could help people find relief from pain, stress, and tension, often after years of discomfort.
A New Chapter in the Scottish Highlands
Fast‑forward to today, and my life looks very different. With my sons grown up and living their own adventures, I decided it was time for mine. So, I moved to the stunning Highlands of Scotland. Here, surrounded by wild beauty and open skies, I offer Bowen Therapy alongside other holistic treatments such as Indian Head Massage, MSTR (McLoughlin Scar Tissue Release), and Therapeutic Massage.
Leaving behind my busy Hampshire clinic wasn’t easy. I had worked with some clients for nearly two decades, and the thought of not seeing them again felt bittersweet. But life has a lovely way of creating continuity.

Passing the Torch to the Next Generation
Around the same time as my move, my eldest son, Ryan, found himself in a similar place to where I had been years before. Ultimately he was successful on paper, but unfulfilled in his job in car finance. Knowing how much Bowen had changed my own life, I gently suggested he consider retraining as a therapist.
At first, he wasn’t sure. But after some encouragement (and a nudge from his wife!), he decided to give it a go — and it turned out he had a natural gift for it. Ryan completed his training through Bowen College UK and now runs Recooperate, a thriving mobile practice across Hampshire and Berkshire.
I couldn’t be prouder. Many of my former clients now see him, and I often get messages saying how talented and compassionate he is. It feels wonderful knowing the work I love so much continues through him.
Two Therapists, One Shared Passion
Between us, Ryan and I now span two corners of the UK — the south and the far north — helping people discover what gentle, hands‑on healing can do. Bowen Therapy changed both our lives for the better, and it’s a privilege to help others experience the same.
If you’ve ever thought about changing careers or training in something more meaningful, perhaps Bowen Therapy could be that path for you too. Whether you want to help your family, add a new skill to your practice, or build a whole new career, it’s one of the most rewarding journeys you can take.
